Winterwell’s Eccentric English Garden Party took place at Oxfordshire’s Aynhoe Park in June 2014. This exclusive event celebrated the best of playful English eccentricity and zest for adventure, with an ‘Eccentric Safari’ dress code to match. Guests were invited to indulge their inner Victorian aristocrat, with clothing suggestions including vintage traveller, gentlemen explorer or eccentric hunter.
By day, gourmet picnic hampers were feasted on to the sound of live bands, cricket and croquet were played on Aynhoe’s immaculate lawns and guests revelled in evocative storytelling, dance classes and life drawing. As the sun went down on a perfect English summer afternoon, Winterwell’s finest DJs entertained guests late into the night, accompanied by fireworks, cocktails, poker and a late night surprise.
In the spirit of curiosity, Sir William Cornwallis Harris and his team of intrepid explorers treated guests to ‘The Grand Immersive Tour’ through Aynhoe Park’s beautiful Palladian house and bucolic Capability Brown-designed gardens. The more culinarily adventurous among the guests enjoyed ‘In the Company of Savages’, an extraordinary dining experience from Shuttlecock Inc hosted by The Savage Club – the society that unites ‘eccentric luminaries’ in their pursuit of happiness. It doesn’t get more Winterwellian than that.
